A Dose of Summer

Wave Surfing

Its been a bit awfully rainy around here these past few days weeks.  I dragged out this photo from the end of summer.  A sunny, warm memory of what the weather can be like around here.

Bad Horse is looking for new blood.  If I had a really great evil name I’d totally be applying.

Just reminiscing

August 24th, 2008 Posted in Featured | No Comments »

I’ve been trying to find a copy of “Girl I Wanna Lay You Down” since my big date with Jack a few days ago.  I’ve settled for this totally cheesy video instead since I don’t believe that such a recording exists.  Come on people!  Get in the groove.

My Thursday Night Lovefest

August 22nd, 2008 Posted in Featured | No Comments »

Way back in March we purchased tickets to see Jack Johnson as an early anniversary present to ourselves and on Thursday night we got all cozy with the man himself and a few thousand others.  Yep, there he is.  The man the red shirt.

Jack played Thunderbird Stadium which is on the University of British Columbia campus.  Yep, university crowd.  You know, I don’t usually think of myself as old *cough* but Thursday night I was definitely feeling much older than the crowd around me.  I Googled Jack’s birthday.  Damn!  I’m 5 years older than him!  It’s all good though - we are both Aries!

Look, here is some of the crowd on the big screen.

We pretty much stayed near this big screen for the whole concert which was just to the right of the stage?  See the preppy guy?  With the sweater around his shoulders.  I have a feeling he was feeling way more out of place than me.

This was a totally awesome crowd though.  I mean really, how rowdy can you get at a Jack Johnson concert?  He’s all about love and perspective and sings about good times and not so good times and, of course, banana pancakes.  We all sang right along with him.  It was a total lovefest.

You know, I use to be really good at finding the right path through a crowd to get in deep at center stage.  Yep, being tall works well not only to see over the crowd but to move through it too. We brought our big camera with the zoom lens and I was all protective over it so we stayed comfortably close to the stage.  We slowly moved deeper into the crowd as the night continued as all the over-heated bodies kept moving out.

Yeah, we were close enough.  We loved it.  We loved him.  We bought t-shirts.

Maybe next time I see you Jack I’ll be living out one of my concert fantasies.  Thanks for a great night.  Call me.

If I post it maybe I will get it out of my head.

August 21st, 2008 Posted in Family | No Comments »

Some of my time has been occupied lately with 20 year grad reunion plans - hey did you hear that choking sound too?  Its made me crave all things eighty lately and mostly the music.  You’ve got to love things like iTunes Essentials and Youtube which make searching things from your past really easy.  I got this song in my head the other day and can’t get it out.  I decided today that maybe if I post it here that will be the end of it or at least put it in your head too so I am not alone:

It’s curtains for you, lacey wafty curtains!

July 19th, 2008 Posted in Family | No Comments »

I’m not one to really get excited about a tv show.  Yes, I have some favourites and have been known to plan my evenings around episodes of Survivor.  Gasp!  The other day, July 15th to be exact, I read a post over here and was introduced to something new.  If you were to read about something described as “…it is magical. It is unicorns on fluffy puppy-shaped clouds filled with leprechauns and Harry Potter’s soul-kind of magical” you would go and check it out too - right? All I can say is THANK YOU LIZ!  I’ve been needing something like this in my life for a long time now.

What is THIS you say?  Well its Dr. Horrible of course.

Go watch it today.  Free Airing Ends 20 July 2008

Apparently I’m not subscribed to the right rss feeds because I didn’t catch a whiff of this until July 15th when Act I was officially launched.  By the time I went to view it the server had crashed and was in the process of being moved in order to accommodate the huge demand.  Its all fixed now.  I ended up downloading all 3 acts from itunes.  I’m saving the last act to watch at some point today; I want to savour it as you would the last chapter of the book you don’t want to end.

I’m off to sync my itouch now and find a nice comfy place to enjoy my new favourite tv internet show.

8/21/08 Note:  I clicked through this link today and if you live in the United States you can see the streaming video but of course not in Canada.  Have I told you how much I miss Pandora too?

So we took a little trip to Whistler…

June 8th, 2008 Posted in Family | No Comments »

A couple of weekends ago we took a trip up to Whistler and stayed at the beautiful Fairmont Chateau. The kids were really excited about this trip. Brianna, in particular, was talking about it all the time. “Is it this weekend?” “When are we going again?” “Do we have to take a plane to get there?” First off, Whistler is a mere 1hr 45min drive from our house and this was going to be our kids first time staying in a hotel. No sleeping bag. No tent. No dog. They had no idea was this hotel thing was all about.

In honor of their first hotel stay I decided we were going to make it memorable. Yes, that could only mean on thing. We were going to order Room Service! Breakfast would be delivered at 8:30 a.m. and we were going to eat in our beds! What could be better than that?

Here is our breakfast.

Here are the kids enjoying breakfast in bed.

Here is the bill.

Hope you enjoyed that kids because it might be the last time we order room service again. Perhaps it is just that I am a notorious cheap skate but really $68.76 for breakfast? I read the menu beforehand and I knew it would be expensive but seeing it in black and white…Yow-za!

So after a walk around the village and a little shopping we went back to the hotel for a swim and a rest and a little jumping on the bed. I didn’t quite get an in the air shot but I kind of like these soft landing shots.

Nothing like some bed jumping to help me work through my feelings about the earlier room service bill.

The Moth

June 6th, 2008 Posted in Family | No Comments »

After school today we hung around the playground for a little while. It was a miserable rainy morning and the sun had finally decided to visit us so we were not going to miss out on it. Brianna had spied a moth on the ground and announced that she was going to catch it. “Good Luck” I said and off she went. Not long later she came running from the far side of the field screaming at the top of her lungs “I caught it! I caught it!”. I don’t think I have ever seen her move so fast.

She decided she was going to take it home and put it in a jar. I told her it would be better if we enjoyed it for a moment but to let it go. It wouldn’t be happy living in a jar. No. She was going to put it in a jar. I told her to be careful not to rub any of the dust off its wings otherwise it wouldn’t be able to fly home to its family.

She decided that she really was keeping it now and that she would collect all the dust and put it on herself so that she could fly. I told her that one moth wouldn’t give her enough dust to fly. We did agree that we would let the moth go free once we got home. I would take pictures of it and we would remember this moment forever.

As promised she set it free. Good-bye little moth. Thanks for visiting.
